This book took me about two and a half years from concept to fruition.  It is a far more difficult process than I ever anticipated when I started.  You need to be prepared for rejection and setbacks.  If you think you can handle that, then read on.

The first step is having a take on the topic that is both new and interesting.  Once you have that, you need to develop a platform.  This is simply a method to develop a following of people who are interested in what you have to say on the topic.  This is an incredibly vital part of the process regardless of how you handle the next step.  I would recommend setting up a blog to start with.  From here you can work on establishing your bonafides with the media and trying to get a bit of publicity.

The second step is to determine whether you are interested in traditional or self publishing.  Read as much as you can on both options, but don’t commit to any self publishing companies.  Both options have advantages and disadvantages.  As you are educating yourself on the options, continue establishing your platform and start outlining the book.  Whichever method you choose to publish your book, your platform will be a key to your success.

Once you have made it this far, you are well on your way and should start on your book.  If you need any additional guidance or advice, feel free to contact me.  I don’t look at other writers as competition.  I would be happy to share my experiences and help you avoid some of my mistakes.  I might even be able to provide a third publishing option.  If you have a question, send me an email at David@hospitalityformula.com.
